In 2003, Dickinson Architects provided design services for the 7 story 136 room suite style hotel located on the Augusta Riverwalk. The facility was required to blend seamlessly with the historic surroundings and flow with adjacent structures through new connection points. The limited availability of land was the main challenge and required careful considerations to fire separations. The second floor of the hotel connects to the existing convention center via an elevated bridge. The convention center included an addition of 57,000 square foot of multi-purpose space. This new facility contains office space, gift shop, six multi-use conference rooms, back-of-house food service areas, assembly spaces, and a large storage area on the bottom floor. Using movable partitions, the meeting rooms can be combined to create large ballrooms. The need for current and future technology was a concern for the developer, so the conference rooms were wired for all anticipated technological needs.
