The line between function and aesthetics is blurred and hard to see. That’s for the best. - Nick Dickinson, II
Start at the CenterWe identified this building as the functional center of the campus and wanted to do something significant to mark that. The sky light, which is the focal center of the building, accomplishes that goal. It also pours an incredible amount of natural light deep into the structure and provides stylistic cues repeated throughout the building. go to project details |

Down by the RiverWhat’s great about this building isn’t necessarily the hotel but the conference center. A building that feels contemporary and open while remaining traditionally Southern, the design judiciously uses windows and light to form a spatial relationship that addresses both the building and the Riverwalk. The result is a structure with a lot of interaction and activity both inside and out. go to project details |

A Modest ProposalWe knew this building had to feel like a bank, communicating those elements of responsibility and stability customers look for in a financial institution. But because this was a new bank, it couldn't feel lavish. Opulence had to be set aside in favor of clean, classic and bright. We were very focused on scale, making sure it fit within the parameters of the site. We also considered historic context, incorporating a lot of varied decorative cues. go to project details |

A Plan Comes TogetherA master plan is always important, especially on a project like this where there are already structures in place. It’s the most critical aspect of design. It affects everything -- access, aesthetics, flow -- there are just so many moving parts. At Reid, we had to take into account both the immovable objects -- the church sanctuary and a historic home -- as well as the need for vastly expanded facilities. The answer was a balance between building out and up. go to project details |

The Gift of SiteThis multi-purpose facility was directly inspired by its environment. Perched on a 50 foot cliff, the large structure, built with natural materials, seems to rise from the ground, becoming part of the landscape rather than competing with it. Large windows and a deck take advantage of the commanding views and pay tribute to the original inspiration of tall trees, hanging moss and the sound of the rapids. go to project details |

Two for TeeThe First Tee of Augusta clubhouse addresses two goals. The first is to function as a golf course clubhouse. The second is to function as an educational facility. Externally, the building must serve as the golf course focal point without ever feeling imposing. The interior design incorporates lighter-than-clubhouse-usual colors and an open layout that includes high vaulted ceilings, giving the structure a welcoming sense of space. go to project details |

Building GoodwillThis project was all about rejuvenation. We wanted to not only reinvigorate an existing structure, but also the image of the organization and the surrounding neighborhood. What it came down to was wanting it to look cool and in this case, that meant cutting the face off the building and starting all over. go to project details |

Great PerformancesA proposal that hasn't come to construction fruition (yet), the Augusta Performing Arts Center was inspired by both the specifics of a site on the banks of the Savannah River and the function it must fulfill. The facade was inspired by sheet music and the incorporation of brightly colored banners by the constant movement of the river below. go to project details |

Doctors DilemmaWhen you are dealing with an attached structure, there should always be some continuity of design. You have to be respectful. With a utilitarian aesthetic like Doctor’s Hospital, that can be tricky. Our mandate was to make it nice, but not too nice. Our focus became the entrance portico, reflecting the clean lines of the existing buildings, but in a very contemporary and welcoming way. go to project details |
